Zala Bobhata Movie Review

The film is a joy ride primarily because of its actors. It doesn’t have a very engaging story but the situational comedy and punches from the bunch of experienced performers helps it strike a chord with viewers. ‘Zhala Bobhata’ is not your cup of tea if you are looking for something meaningful. Although it does pack a social message towards the end, this is primarily a film made to evoke guffaws. Watch it if all you want to do is sit back and laugh.

The first half is filled with certain humorous scenes that are supposed to make you laugh no matter how hard you try to pretend. The problem as always is with the second half. A story of a good for nothing village has been rounded off quite abruptly with a dosage of social awareness. The problem with such average budget Marathi films is that they think every aspect should reflect their budget. Even after that the film isn’t visually appealing in any way. Zhalla Bobhata is a film you would most probably watch on TV & have a nice laugh. There are certain elements that can be called ‘double meaning’.If you enjoy typical rural humor of our Marathi films or maybe you’re in a mood for some mindless fun, ‘Zhalla Bobhata’ might just suit you.

Bobhata plays with an interesting idea stretched interminably, without any real ups and downs, or emotional quotient. The characters seem to be just the extensions of the personalities/ types of the actors that play them. The first problem with Zala Bobhata is this situation, of Appa being in comatose state intermittently and village trying to revive him. This goes on for most of the film without any respite.Zala Bobhata ends like an amateurish children’s play with an obvious message, delivered in an entirely predictable fashion. Message is the key word here as the entire film has a feel of being an end run for the state film awards in the category of ‘B est rural or film with a social message’
