Hebbuli Movie Review

Technically, the film shines with good cinematography, background score and editing. The choreography and costumes add extra charm. The film, maybe, could have done with one lesser song, but one doesn’t mind as the songs make for a good visual treat. If you don’t want the typical masala entertainment and are looking for something that moves beyond the staple big hero potboilers then this is for you. Hebbuli cleverly integrates an important issue, while still retaining massy elements. Go watch this one, it will not fail to entertain you.

The comedy track with Chikkanna stands out like a sore thumb. Creative licence gives the hero a look that would make army men squirm. There are a couple of oversights too; usage of the term collector being one. The film could have done with a tighter second half. Overall, Hebbuli is the kind of film that cannot be made without the star or his fans in mind — a film that the star has to carry forward. Sudeep has done it. A couple of hot topics in the country in the last few months are part of the plot. The director had some foresight which better be seen on screen.

The film still holds attention. I can’t exactly pinpoint at which point the narration lost its grip but, definitely, post interval, it becomes a regular action film. Hebbuli has its moments but comes up short on satisfying the pre-release expectations of the audience. It is, meanwhile, a treat for Sudeep fans. The action scenes in the film have been nicely done keeping Sundeep’s fans in mind and to give them reasons to whistle and clap for their favourite actor. Surprisingly, songs in the film are engaging and lift the mood of the audience. A good job by music composer Arjun Janya.

In short, the audience will get to witness the dangerous side of a rebel army man in the Kannada flick. Sudeep Realistic Acting, Fighting & Walking Style are Just Superb. Amala paul, Arjun janya, Ravishankar has done justice to their character. As an audience, we expected some variation in Hebbuli and it is conspicuous by its absence. The film has multiple villains played by Arasikere Anjinappa and Ravi Kishan but both characters fail to leave a mark on the screen.
